چکیده
Abstract Noun incorporation is commonly thought to avoid the weak compositionality of compounds because it involves conjunction an argument noun with incorporating verb. However, weakly compositional in two ways. First, noun’s entity needs be bound or saturated, but previous accounts fail adequately ensure that is. Second, non-arguments are often incorporated many languages, and their thematic role available for contextual selection. متن کاملNoun Incorporation in Frisian
Noun incorporation in Frisian (Dyk 1997) is unusual because it shows certain restrictions that are not seen in other languages with noun incorporation, such as Mohawk and Chukchi. In addition, while others argue that noun incorporation is indeed possible in Germanic (see Booij 2009 for Dutch, Barrie and Spreng 2009 for German), Frisian is unusual even with respect to Germanic in allowing noun i...
متن کاملNoun incorporation and the Mohawk lexicon
Mohawk, like many North American languages, seems to do in its morphology what more familiar languages do in their syntax. When faced with such a language, the linguist is forced to reconsider some basic notions. Do we ignore the apparent parallels between syntactic and morphological processes and continue to treat them diierently, or do we push syntax down below the word level? What is the div...
متن کاملClassification of Noun-Noun Compound Semantics in Dutch and Afrikaans
This article presents initial results on a supervised machine learning approach to determine the semantics of noun compounds in Dutch and Afrikaans. After a discussion of previous research on the topic, we present our annotation methods used to provide a training set of compounds with the appropriate semantic class. The support vector machine method used for this classification experiment utili...
